Have you arrived in Australia and plan to work in the construction industry? You need a White Card. We tell you how you can get one, what it is for and how long it is valid.
What is a White Card?
It is proof that you have completed an introductory course in general construction. This course is compulsory for anyone who works, or wants to work, in the construction sector, in positions such as:
✅ site managers
✅ self-employed persons
How do I get a White Card?
You can apply for and obtain a White Card by completing a course, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), either at a recognised training organisation (RTO or Registered Training Organisation) or online, and subsequently taking an examination.
Documents required to obtain the White Card
✅ Australian driving licence
✅ Passport photo
✅ Bank statement-card
✅ Address in Australia
When do I need a white card?
Once you have completed your training, you will be issued with a training statement which will allow you to start work in a building or on a construction site immediately, while it is coming to you at your place of residence.
If you undertake White Card training with an Australian accredited registered training organisation, your White Card will be valid in:
New South Wales
Do I have to renew my White Card once I get it?
No. It will remain valid as long as you continue to work in construction. However, if you do not work in this field for a period of two consecutive years, you will have to renew it by completing the training again.
